The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Bangkok, is a five-star heritage hotel that blends contemporary luxury with royal Thai history. Niratt Design was commissioned to design all guestrooms and suites with a concept rooted in the lifestyle and legacy of Princess Valaya Alongkorn, the 43rd daughter of King Rama V and an aunt of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Princess Valaya was renowned for her refined taste in Thai-European interior decoration, couture fashion, floral artistry, intellectual pursuits like chess, and her personal collection of rare books. Inspired by her rich cultural heritage and sophisticated sensibilities, Niratt Design envisioned interiors that revive Thai Colonial aesthetics with a modern transitional elegance—a timeless style we call "Thai Transitional Luxury."

Upon entering the guestrooms, guests are transported into an era where graceful Thai nobility met Western opulence—a period that significantly shaped the history of Thai interior design.

Royal Club Rooms and Suites – Inspired by Thai Royal Ceremonial Elegance

The Royal Club Rooms and Suites reflect the regal ambiance of Thai royal ceremonies once held in the Grand Palace. The interiors fuse contemporary sophistication with ceremonial symbolism, offering an atmosphere of serenity and understated grandeur.

Design features include:
  • Traditional Thai pattern panels (Lai-Karn-Yang-Bai-Thed, ลายก้านแยงใบเทศ) flanking the bed
  • Custom embroidered two-tone curtains featuring Thai motifs
  • Pleated lampshades influenced by Princess Valaya’s signature fashion style
  • A curved corner sofa for added softness and modern appeal
  • Framed Thai silver crafts as decorative wall art
  • Luxurious carpet designs that impress at first glance
  • Armchairs upholstered with Nina Campbell fabric (Europe) for refined comfort

The elegant palette of royal blue and soft grey creates a calming sanctuary—an oasis of quiet luxury in the vibrant heart of Bangkok.

The Deluxe Room and Suite concepts were inspired by the serene charm of a Thai summer palace, evoking the sensation of warm tropical breezes flowing through carved teakwood panels.

Interior highlights include:

  • Lai-Ku-Dun-Karn-Yang Thai pattern panels (ลายกุดันก้านแยง) at the bed’s side
  • Curtains adorned with traditional Thai motifs
  • Custom pleated lamps referencing royal fashion influences
  • Thai-style benches representing “Tung”, the royal ceremonial bench, placed in King-sized bedroom layouts
  • Artwork framed in Thai silver craftsmanship
  • A refined color palette of ivory white, soft grey, deep maroon, and natural dark oak wood
  • Diamond-shaped carpet motifs embedded with delicate Thai floral patterns

The result is a luxurious and culturally immersive space that honors Thailand’s royal design legacy while offering international guests modern comfort and sophistication.
